MANUAL / PLUGIN

Palf Orime

Folds a layer along up to five creases. It handles valley and mountain folds, a back face and a crease pattern.

01

Installation

  1. 01

    Quit Adobe After Effects completely.

  2. 02

Copy Orime.aex (Windows) or Orime.plugin (macOS) into the After Effects Plug-ins folder.

  3. 03

Start After Effects and apply from Effect > Palf > Palf Orime. If After Effects was already running, restart it so the plug-in loads.

Windows
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects <version>\Support Files\Plug-ins\
macOS
/Applications/Adobe After Effects <version>/Plug-ins/

Requirements: After Effects 2023–2026 / Windows / macOS 11.0 (Big Sur) or later.

02

How to use

  1. 01

Apply Palf Orime to the layer you want to fold.

  2. 02

In Fold 1, adjust Centre and Angle, then choose Valley or Mountain for Fold Type.

  3. 03

To add creases, turn on Enabled under Fold 2 to Fold 5. Folds are applied from Fold 1 through Fold 5.

  4. 04

In Back Face, set Back Layer or Solid Colour.

  5. 05

To check the creases, set Display Mode to Crease pattern (wireframe).

The Fold 2–5 groups start collapsed.

03

Display Mode

Display Mode
Folded result (default) draws the folded paper. The layer grows so paper outside the original bounds remains. Crease pattern (wireframe) draws the creases on the original layer. Valley creases are dashed and mountain creases are dash-dot. The bounds of Crease pattern (wireframe) stay the source size.
04

Fold 1

Fold 1 contains Enabled, Fold Type, Centre and Angle.

Enabled
Uses this crease. Default: on. While off, Fold Type, Centre and Angle cannot be edited.
Fold Type
Valley (default) brings the moving side to the front. Mountain sends the moving side to the back.
Centre
Point the crease passes through. Default: the centre of the layer. A centre outside the layer leaves Fold 1 unfolded.
Angle
Which side folds. 0° folds the bottom upward. 90° folds the left-hand side. Adding 180° folds the opposite side. Default −45°.
05

Fold 2–5

Fold 2 to Fold 5 also contain Enabled, Fold Type, Centre and Angle. Enabled starts off, and the groups start collapsed. While a fold is off, the controls in its group cannot be edited. Fold overlying is shown when Coordinate Space is Original Source. Affected region is shown when Coordinate Space is Current Folded.

Enabled
Uses this crease. Default: off.
Fold Type
Valley (default) brings the moving side to the front. Mountain sends the moving side to the back.
Coordinate Space
In Original Source (default), Centre and Angle are specified on the layer before folding. The crease follows the earlier folds and rests on the current paper. If the centre is outside the original sheet, it does not fold. In Current Folded, Centre and Angle are specified on the paper as it is now, and it folds in place.
Fold overlying
Shown while Enabled is on and Coordinate Space is Original Source. Default: on. On also folds paper already stacked on the side this crease turns towards. Off leaves that stacked paper in place. When an earlier crease lies on the moving side, both sides of that crease still move together.
Affected region
Shown while Enabled is on and Coordinate Space is Current Folded. Whole sheet folds the paper on the side selected by Angle, including separate pieces. Even if the centre is off the paper, it folds along the line through that point. Continuous region only (default) folds only the paper that continues from the centre along the crease. If the centre is outside the current paper, it does not fold.
Centre
Point the crease passes through. Default: the centre of the layer.
Angle
Same direction as Fold 1. 0° folds the bottom upward. 90° folds the left-hand side. Adding 180° folds the opposite side. Default −45°.
06

Back Face

Back Layer
Layer used on the reverse of the sheet. Default: None. The image is fitted across the source and mirrored left to right. With None, and with Back Mode set to Layer (Front if None), a left-right mirror of the front is used.
Back Mode
Layer (Front if None) (default) or Solid Colour. Solid Colour makes Back Colour editable. Clip with Front Alpha can be edited for Layer (Front if None).
Back Colour
Colour used for Solid Colour. Default: white. Editable only in that mode. A solid colour always follows the front alpha.
Clip with Front Alpha
Default: on. Clips a layer back, or a mirrored front, to the opaque shape of the front. The back layer also keeps its own alpha. Editable for Layer (Front if None).
07

Antialiasing

Antialiasing
None, Standard (default) or High. Smooths the edges of the folded paper and the lines of the crease pattern. High takes longer to render.
08

Tips

On a layer with transparent areas, you can adjust the extent of the back face with Clip with Front Alpha. To check the creases, use Crease pattern (wireframe) in Display Mode.

When a fold cannot lie flat, or the creases exceed capacity, that fold is cancelled and the paper returns to the state before that fold. If the cancellation remains when folding finishes, “Fold rejected: non-flat crease pattern” or “Fold rejected: crease capacity exceeded” is shown under the logo at the top of the effect.

DEMO edition

The free DEMO offers the same controls as the full edition, with a red cross watermark on every output frame. The effect appears as “Palf Orime DEMO” (Orime_DEMO.aex / Orime_DEMO.plugin) and can sit alongside the full plug-in.
